The Best Black Hijabs to Shop Year Round

The Best Black Hijabs to Shop Year Round - Lizzy Helena Brown

In July, I asked my community on Threads the following question: "If you could pick just one, what would you say is the best hijab material?". Most women said chiffon & jersey, with a few outliers saying silk and satin. Next, I asked what color hijab you would wear if you could only wear one for the rest of your life. Many women said black, some said any color except black. Regardless, it comprised a plurality of the top picks.

Black is the universal neutral. It looks amazing on almost everyone and pairs well with every color, and let's be honest: a monochromatic black look is an automatic confidence boost.

There are thousands upon thousands of hijab styles available, and sometimes choosing one (even if you've narrowed down the color you want) can be overwhelming and time consuming. This guide is arranged by material--for each section, I pulled a few highly-rated styles at a variety of price points. I have experience with most of the brands I've listed here, and for the ones I don't, I checked reviews to ensure other customers have had good experiences with the hijabs.

Jersey

Jersey material offers a smooth, stretchy fit that stays in place all day without the need for an undercap, pins, or constant adjustment. It's the perfect material for women on the move with work, errands, or shuttling kids around.

Hijab Elegance

Everyday Luxury Jersey Hijab in Black

This jersey hijab from Hijab Elegance is a popular pick for its reliable comfort and simple style.

Zahraa The Label

Often sold out, this scarf and undercap duo is made of the bounciest bamboo jersey that doesn't hold magnet marks like other scarves might. It's a little more expensive than other scarves on the list, but if you're a purist who keeps things simple and loves natural fibers like I do, this is a great purchase.

Piewag

Soft Cotton Blend Jersey Hijab in Black

USD $9.99

This cotton blend jersey hijab on Amazon is great because it uses some natural fibers, making it more breathable and better for your scalp health.

Bella Hijabs

Jersey Lace Hijab in Jet Black

USD $10.00

The addition of contrasting bright white lace on the ends of this jersey hijab adds delicate, feminine flair. This style is great for hijabis who already have the basics and want to add more detailed pieces to their hijab collection.

Modal

Modal hijab material has a cult following for its breathability and lightweight feel. Made from beech tree pulp, this eco-friendly fabric is both durable and gentle on sensitive skin, making it ideal for everyday wear. One of the key benefits of modal is its ability to maintain vibrancy and resist shrinking, even after repeated washes, ensuring your hijabs stay beautiful and long-lasting. Its smooth drape provide a flattering fit that’s easy to style and stays in place throughout the day, offering both comfort and versatility for any occasion. Additionally, modal's moisture-wicking properties make it especially suitable for warmer climates, helping you stay cool and fresh.

Veiled Collection

Lala Hijabs

Arabian Modal Hijab in Black

USD $21.99

Lala Hijabs are primarily known for their hand-dyed tie-dye print styles, but their modal collection is stunning as well!

Satin

Satin hijabs are perfect for elegant daytime looks or late night dinners. The fabric's glossy, fluid texture reflects light beautifully. Notoriously slippery, it's best to style satin hijabs with a cotton undercap and pins at the sides.

Medina Silk

Known for its gentle matte finish and understated luster, Medina Silk offers the perfect combination of elegance and ease of wear. It drapes flawlessly and is heavier than chiffon but lighter than jersey, ensuring a secure and refined look for any occasion. Breathable yet fully opaque, this hijab material is a versatile choice for both special events and effortless everyday style. It's necessary to style Medina silk with an undercap and pins so it doesn't slip during the course of the day.

MODASTY

Premium Medina Silk Hijab in Black

USD $19.00

This particular hijab by MODASTY would look amazing with a simple black abaya.

Milabella

Medina Silk Hijab in Black

USD $9.99

Amazon find! This piece is at a slightly lower price point but doesn't compromise on style--it comes in many other colors as well!

Silk

Silk is a timeless choice for hijab material, prized for its natural sheen, softness, and lightweight feel. This fabric exudes elegance and is perfect for formal occasions or adding a touch of refinement to any outfit. Silk is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin, and its smooth texture minimizes friction, reducing hair breakage and frizz. Despite its delicate appearance, silk is surprisingly strong and durable when cared for properly. Its ability to regulate temperature also makes it versatile, keeping you cool in warmer weather while providing warmth during colder months. However, silk requires gentle handling and care, including handwashing or dry cleaning, to maintain its beauty and longevity.

Nscarves

Organza Silk Hijab in Black

USD $19.99

The Organza Silk Hijab in Black from Nscarves brings an airy, ethereal quality to any outfit.

Bajra

Handmade Organic Rose Petal Silk Hijab in Black

USD $271.99

This is the only hijab sold by Bajra, all of whose products are handmade with natural fibers. It's hand woven by artisans in Nepal with rose petal silk sourced from India. The price reflects the craftsmanship, and this may be a great special occasion gift for yourself or any hijabi in your life.

Cashmere

Cashmere scarves are perfect for hijabis who live in cool climates and need to stay extra warm during winter. Thinner styles also work well for summer because they're temperature-regulating. I love natural fibers, so I'd recommend every hijabi have one or two of these cashmere hijabs in their collection.

Modest Essence

Crinkle Cashmere Hijab in Black

$17.00

Designed and manufactured in Kuwait, Modest Essence's line of cashmere scarves are sheer and lightweight, perfect for those who live in a hot climate with mild winters. The crinkle pattern this one features can be used to add textural interest to an otherwise simple outfit. It's on sale for $6.99 at the moment, so now is a good time to strike.

Modest Essence

Basic Cashmere Hijab in Black

USD $16.00

This is the non-crinkle version of the previous style! It's sheer but opaque when layered, and the brand recommends wearing it with an undercap. Again, it's designed and manufactured in Kuwait.

C by Bloomingdale’s Cashmere

Oversized Knit Scarf in Black

$178.00

Many of my favorite hijabs are scarves designed for non-hijab use. During the cooler months, I love to style a sumptuous cashmere scarf as a hijab with some strategic pins and an undercap. This style from Bloomingdale's cashmere line is a perfect candidate! It's big enough to pull around your shoulders for a supremely cozy vibe.
