Staying Grounded while Moving
I'm currently in the process of moving across the country (for the 4th time in 3 years)! Moving can be stressful, so here are 3 tips I've picked up to make it a little easier.
1. Start an Audiobook
Listening to a long audiobook while moving is something I enjoy. I've started one while packing, and will continue to listen to it on my trip to my new location. This time around, my pick is The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk. Last time, I listened to Watership Down by Richard Adams, and the previous time I listened to the Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot. There are many good books out there, so you really can't go wrong! Listening to the Quran is always a great option.
2. Make Time to Connect
Set aside some time every day to talk to family! This is great to protect your mental health through what can be a stressful time.
3. Journal
Take note of your feelings through this time. Not only is it therapeutic to write about how you're feeling, but it will be a snapshot in time you'll enjoy revisiting in the future. Here are some example prompts you could use to start a session!
A. What are your biggest hopes and fears surrounding moving?
B. What are you most looking forward to in your new state?
C. What will you miss most about your current area?
D. What habits/routines do you want to establish in your new home?
E. What are you grateful for during this moving process?
Listening to an audiobook, making time to connect with family, and journaling are 3 activities that have helped me stay grounded during my move. Let me know if these tips were useful to you!
