Healthy Caramel Fruit Dip
I've been making this healthy caramel dip since 2020. It's one of my favorite snacks and desserts, especially recently because I'm making a concentrated effort to eat healthier post-Ramadan and after having a baby. It has the color and viscosity of caramel, making it the perfect dip for fresh cut fruit.
It uses tahini (sesame paste), which is a common ingredient in middle eastern cuisine, as the main ingredient. You could make it with just tahini, but I added peanut butter to this version to give it a darker color and make it thicker.
This recipe serves 2-3 people.
Ingredients
1/4 cup tahini
3 tbsp organic peanut butter
3 tbsp cold water
1.5 tbsp organic maple syrup
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1: Pour the tahini and peanut butter into a cup or small bowl.
Step 2: Add the water 1 tablespoon at a time, whisking until incorporated each time.
Note: The thickness of the sauce will vary depending on the oil:solids ratio of your tahini and peanut butter, so add more water if it's too thick.
Step 3: Whisk in the maple syrup and salt.
Step 4: Enjoy with your favorite fruit! Harder fruits like apples and firm pears work best.
